This little girl is at the PHUKET HOSPITAL - She does not remember her own name or anything about herself. She has lost her parents. She was a victim of the tidal wave disaster in Phuket, Thailand and nobody knows who she is.

On 29 Dec. 2004, Sophia was able to be transported from Thailand to Germany, and is receiving further medical treatment here. (Germany) She is doing reasonably well considering the circumstances. She is being lovingly cared for by her relatives. The status of her parents is at this point unknown.
Through the attention of the media and the help of local citizens, it was possible to identify her relatives and deliver Sophia into their hands.

Birthday girl was overjoyed on her 8th birthday.
Janelle will like to thank all her friends, relatives, auntie Lynn, all of mom's blogger friends that wished her birthday wishes and all the wonderful presents she received.

Janelle spent almost 3 hours at the A&E department today with a swelling foot.
With 19 bottles of antibiotics medication....


she's definitely not in the best of moods.
Doctor has drawn a line on her foot for observation.
If swelling goes beyond the line, she must be rushed back to the hospital.

She's only happy that this happened today, and not on her birthday yesterday.

Our blogger friend Michele from The Rocky Mountain Retreat has met with an accident.
She was found unconscious down an embankment of a creek yesterday morning. She was not breathing when a passer-by found her. Airway was opened when ambulance arrived at scene. She's currently in hospital.
Please put her in your prayers.

Didn't go out anywhere this weekend. Kids had playmates over to entertain themselves. They boys were engrossed with playing the PSP. The girls were taking turns giving my dog a ride on the bicycle. They attended a swim birthday party at the pool, but it rained after a while. *bummer*

I'm trying to get over my disappointment that helper won't be back till at least another 10 days...
Was so looking forward to picking her up from the airport on Monday night. I'm ending up calling the ticketing office on Monday to re-purchase another ticket for her.

Helper's trip home has been a nightmare for her as well, her grandmother and her youngest brother passed away. Anyone losing 2 close ones days apart is heartbreaking!

From what I know, her brother whom broke his arm 2 years ago, has been living in solitude. His arm was never cured, unable to move it at all. He lives in his room the entire day, only going for walks in the village in the wee hours of the night to avoid meeting people.
One day the past week, he couldn't talk or move at all. They sent him to the hospital but was turned away saying there was nothing left to do. They brought him home, due to the grief, their grandmother passed away.
Yesterday, the brother finally breathe his last.

A nightmare trip for helper I will conclude.

As for me, it's another 10 more days or so........

No Monday blues today. But instead we're having a colorful Monday! Colorful array of medicines to be exact actually. 3rd trip to the doctor this morning in 6 days. I'm speechless already. We have all spent more time on our bed watching cartoons than any other times. Both kids were given another 2 days off from school. As for me, needless to say I'm also on medical leave till further notice. *Bummer*
All the coughing has caused my ribs to be sore and achy. Thank god for my notebook, I can't even imagine myself sitting upright at the table using the desktop now.


When will we all feel better again?!?!?!?! This whole ordeal is causing the entire household to be soooo restless. Did I mention? Medical fees has also made me a couple of hundreds poorer.. *WAILZ*

Last Friday morning while we(my family) were all still in La La Land. 2 lives were almost lost at my condominium's pool. Luck was shining on the 2 young teenagers with one resident who was at the pool having his morning swim. He saved the 2 young girls. I only knew of the accident yesterday when Almighty King called to inform me after reading from the papers.

What was lucky that it was reported that this Heroic resident normally does his thrice daily swim at 6am. However on Friday, a change in plans got him only to the pool at 8am. Things would have turned tragic if that heroic resident wasn't around.

Having lived here for years, I would say that this pool is way under-use by it's residents. On days that I conduct classes or whenever I bring my 2 kiddos for leisure swim, we practically have the entire pool to ourselves! There's no lifeguard on duty, making it a dangerous facility of the condominium. Besides it's deep end of the pool is at 3 meters depth.

Maybe it's an occupational hazard. I squirm and feel the ache whenever there's news of anyone drowning at the pool. Supervision is a MUST for kids no matter how well they swim. However, it's sad that some parents have got that dumb ass mentality that since their kid are good swimmers. Chances of them drowning equals zero.

As a swim instructor with qualified water life saving skills. Tell me put this straight to any parents out there reading this. "There are still dangers of leg cramps, head knocking onto walls, extreme hard playing, sudden water fear or many other if(s). Do always supervise your child or wards."

If you've got a helper that brings them to the pool, always remind her to keep both her eyes on the kid even when she talks to her friends. I've seen helpers happily chatting with fellow helpers and not even realizing that their ward has left the pool, screaming their lungs out saying that their ward has drowned!!! One of these days, it would not be a false alarm. Till then, it'll be too late....

Singapore Zoological Garden's most famous icon, Ah Meng an orangutan has died on Friday 8 Feb 2008 due to old age.

Ah Meng was 48 years old, equivalent in human terms to nearly 95 years. She was featured in a pro gramme called "Breakfast with an Orang-Utan" which allowed visitors of the Singapore Zoological Gardens to have breakfast and their photographs taken.

She had her share of lime-light been visited by Prince Philip, Michael Jackson, Elizabthe Taylor, David Copperfield during her life-span. Not forgetting her will be the nation that adored her.

"A lot of people, both local and foreigners, have enjoyed her company. I'm sure the patrons of the zoo will miss her," Singapore President S.R. Nathan told the Straits Times.

Because of her celebrity status, the Singapore Tourism Board in 1992 made Ah Meng a special ambassador, the first and only non-human recipient of the award.

"We mourn the passing of Ah Meng," Fanny Lai, group chief executive of Wildlife Reserves Singapore, said in a statement.

"She has touched the hearts of everyone who has met her and contributed immensely in helping promote awareness of how each and every one of us can play a role in anti-poaching, anti-deforestation and conservation matters."

Zoo staff said a "memorial service" will be held on Sunday to allow the public to view the body before it is buried.

Ah Meng is survived by four children and six grandchildren, the zoo said, adding that as a tribute to the ape, the next newborn orangutan to be born at the zoo will be named Ah Meng Junior.

To date, the Singapore Zoo has successfully bred 33 orangutans in captivity, with some of them sent on breeding loans and exchanges to other zoos worldwide.

Ah MengÂ’s eldest son, Hsing Hsing, is currently in Perth Zoo, Australia, the Singapore Zoo said.

Orangutans, tree-living apes native to Borneo and Sumatra, are listed as endangered by the Swiss-based World Conservation Union. It says numbers have fallen by "well over" 50 percent in the past 60 years as a result of lost habitat as well as poaching and the pet trade.

Indonesia is currently home to nearly 62,000 of the popular primates.

The United States' development arm USAID, which is providing assistance and funding to Indonesia to protect the species from extinction, has said a 2004 survey found deforestation had led to the deaths of 3,000 orangutans per year since the 1970s.

I'm proud of our Ah Meng. Tell me how many individual animals have got their own Wiki page!?!? We're all gonna miss Ah Meng. May she Rest In Peace.
