Playing Wii
No romantic candle light dinner.
We spent the day home together with the kids having a friend over,
spread of food, playing Wii & fixing up my problematic notebook.
Note: Faces are mosaic'ed for privacy issues.

1st day of school - 2 Jan'09
The kids preparing for school after their 6 weeks vacation.

The past few days following after Christmas and New Year's Day were hectic as can be.
The kids returned to school after their 6 weeks vacation.
My boy starts primary(elementary) school.
After he came back from school the first day.
My heart sank! He wasn't the least pleased about going to school.
Having only spent the maximum of 4 hours in Kindergarten, the current 6-7 hours in school bothers him very much.
All I can hope is he'll soon sta
rt 'enjoying' school soon.

Escape Theme Park
A day in Escape Theme Park

The kids enjoyed themselves thoroughly..WET! With no extra clothes and 2 dripping wet kids. We ended up buying clothes for them to change into in fear of drenched car seats.
I wondered why I was there? I'm too chicken for high thrilling rides of any kind.
Many times I was urged by The Man to go on the thrill rides, I told him "get a million horses to drag me if you can!"

A wonderful place for the kids to run around enjoying themselves on those rides. Yet, one thing we all couldn't stand! Lining up for the rides!!! Lining up for let's say 20-30 minutes for a single 1-2 minute ride.
Lesson of the day, never head to the amusement park during school vacation or on a weekend...

It was new found fun for the kids learning to bowl.
However, for us the parents.
It's a case of literally "throwing" money into the longkang(gutter)!!

A trip to an offshore island - Pulau Ubin, north-east of Singapore.

Pulau Ubin,Singapore

Bringing my city kids to the rural island was quite an experience with them.
With hardly no tall-rise buildings and automobiles.
They experienced what it was to be living in the "Kampong" (Kampong meaning village in Malay) for just a day.
We cycled around the island on our rented bicycles, which explains why my entire body is aching currently!

The kids and their father had some fun near the water catching shrimps with a pathetic plastic bottle.
Etymology

The name Pulau Ubin literally means "Granite Island" in Malay, which explains the many abandoned granite quarries there. The word ubin is said to be a Javanese term for "squared stone". To the Malays, the island is also known as Pulau Batu Ubin, or "Granite Stone Island". The rocks on the island were used to make floor tiles in the past and were called Jubin, which was then shortened to Ubin.

The island is known as chioh sua in Hokkien, which means "stone hill".

Janelle's Back Home!!!!
Thanks to all that sent her well wishes, through my blog, sms'es and phonecalls checking on Janelle's progress. She has been discharged from the hospital and is currently recuperating at home.
Janelle KKH Episode
After last week's Weekend SnapShot post on Janelle's A&E's episode.
She was admitted into KK hospital the next day with her right hip lymph node starting to hurt.
A couple of possibilities cause the swelling of her foot which caused her
3 days spent at the hospital, with bouts of high fever, a swelling foot, wheezing in the chest, blood test checking with blood cultivation if bacteria has entered her bloodstream.
Till, date we're uncertain if the swell has been due to insect bites, or cuts with bacteria entering her bloodstream.
She was treated with anti-biotics through the IV drip on her hand, leaving her movements restricted.
This hospital stay has been quite an experience for her. She's glad to be back home, away from the hospital ward. So am I!!

While there, I saw this huge article at the 'Admissions' lobby.

It was the busiest "baby factory" in the British Empire in the 1950s and 1960s. For two decades, it held the record as the world's largest maternity hospital in the Guiness Book of Records. Its peak delivery of 39,856(more than 109 per day) in 1966 was acknowledged as the "birth quake" by Guinness. It wass where more than 1.2million Singaporeans first saw the light of day. This is Kandang Kerbau Hospital(KKH), where labour pains give way to joys of birth.

Great Saturday.Stressful Sunday

Janelle's 8 Birthday
Birthday picture credits to Lynn

Birthday celebrations with a BBQ.
Birthday girl was overjoyed on her 8th birthday.
Janelle will like to thank all her friends, relatives, auntie Lynn, all of mom's blogger friends that wished her birthday wishes and all the wonderful presents she received.
~|~
Janelle spent almost 3 hours at the A&E department today with a swelling foot.
With 19 bottles of antibiotics medication....

she's definitely not in the best of moods.
Doctor has drawn a line on her foot for observation.
If swelling goes beyond the line, she must be rushed back to the hospital.

She's only happy that this happened today, and not on her birthday yesterday.

Year end examinations has ended for my eldest.
We got her report book on Friday.
Life was a tummy filled with butterflies for me while she had her exams
as well as awaiting for her results.
Her results are acceptable,
and I'm glad she didn't fail any
of her subjects in school.
Considering her priority in life is only....
PLAY PLAY PLAY & MORE PLAY only...*duh*
It's end of primary 2 for her and moving on to primary 3 next year.
When school reopens next year... Woohoo!!
My younger one will be attending the same school as his sister next year.
Sounds exciting but yet scary to me.
They're growing up too fast!
