Notebook Woes

Wasn't it just recently I reformatted my new notebook?
Well, I'm actually now awaiting "patiently" for the serviceman's arrival!
Apparently my so-called "pretty new" hard disk is giving way and they'll come replace it with a new one. Again?(I heard you) Should I be happy or should I curse my brains out?

The thought of re-installing all my frequently used programs do not the least appeal to me. Not forgetting the re-transfering of my documents and files into the new harddisk.
But for once, I'm gladful for my external harddisk which will make my backup and transfering easier.

With 3 notebooks and 1 desktop at home. I've always thought, it wouldn't be much of a problem if my notebook crashes on me. I'll still have access to the Internet.
I'm wrong! Here I am using my old notebook, yet feeling handicapped. Even the keyboard seems weird to me. To think this is the same notebook that had accompanied me for years before upgrading to the current one.

Ok, it's Thanksgiving. I shouldn't be complaining much I guess. This at least better than not having internet access!
I would definitely go bonkers without access to the internet.
The Man, once comented "to see you jump like amonkey on fire is easy, just imagine you without the Internet!"..... &#@%^)$^!)^@!*&$^

To all that's celebrating Thanksgiving....Happy Thanksgiving!!!

A Question

在最坏时候必须卑鄙 In desperate times, you need to be despicable.
在决裂时候彼此妒忌 At moments, there'll be jealousy among all.
无非 人生 道理 It's all part and parcel of life.

Do you agree or disagree with it?

Template Outcome

I'm still playing around with the template.
Someone actually thought she got onto the wrong site when she arrived here and saw black! *lol*
I've reverted back to white for the ease of strain to the eyes.
My APAD site is already black, so it's black and white for both my sites respectively for now.
So the only changes done to this new template is basically the new black header I've got now. Plus a change from a 2 column template to a 3 column template.
Funny how I feel, that with 2 columns I had more stuffs, but with this 3 columns I'm cutting back in hope of not over cluttering the sidebars.

Emu and Aussie

My son was yakking excitedly when I picked him up from school today.
A parent from his school brought an emu egg to school to showcase and teach them about the egg->life cycle.
He was going on and on till we got home.
Then it struck me...how did that parent got hold of an emu's egg?!?!!?

Either she was a zoo keeper at the local zoo or she's has an emu at home as a pet *wonders*

Which at the same time reminds me that I've gotta bring the kids to the zoo soon. Been quite a while since we visited the zoological gardens.
The man will definitely give me the one word comment with the astonishment look of "Zoo?!??!"

Almighty Queen will definitely come along with me if I asked her to. But my lady of leisure the Almighty Queen will be on vacation to Melbourne for the next 10 days.........without me!!! *head.desk*
She'll be able to look at all the emus in Aussie while I'm here stuck listening to my son rave about an emu egg....................

There goes my lunch and dinner dates with her for the next 10 days :(

I think there's a misconception here about domestic helpers in Singapore. A friend mistaken that I was a very rich lady having live-in helper. Maybe this would clarify the situations regarding domestic helpers.

For starters, I'm not rich. Not even close to it at all :P I would quit soaking myself in chlorine filled pools for a couple of hours each day if then *head.desk* hahhahaaa....

Families with domestic helpers in Singapore are normally those with kids or elderly persons at home to help tend after them as well as household chores.
These domestic helpers are mainly from Indonesia,Philippines, Sri Lanka and a small minority from Myanmar or Thailand.
They are the ladies that leave their family back home, travel out of their country to work hard and help fund their families. Salute them!!

I admit, I've been pretty whiny about my helper not being around. I admit as well, that I was being difficult. It's not the first time my helper has been away for 1 month vacations. I've survived all of those periods. Whining here and there, yes. But not till the extend I would end my life journey simply without having a helper.

It's a case of "taken for granted". I've taken for granted all times when my floor were swept and mopped timely, meals cooked and served promptly and freshly washed and ironed clothes hanging neatly.

My helper we all love at home, she's a wonderful lady that has been with our family for the past almost 15 years. She's no longer a helper, but a family member to us.
Would you feel lost if suddenly your family member is not around in the mornings when you wake up? Well, my kids, me and all at home felt that way.

I'm very blessed to have my current helper with me for the past 15 years. We all get along very well in the house and she has been an amazing help to all of us. She's almost mom to both my kids, whom cry buckets whenever she walks through the immigration doors at the departure hall in the airport. She loves both my kids whom I know would greatly defend my kids in times of 'danger'. She took great care of my aging nanny during times when her body was falling apart, changing soiled diapers, feeding and all that most people would find too gross to do. She cried no less than us when my nanny passed away. She whom cried brokenheartedly when my grandmother passed away in Australia, she whom waited with sadness at the airport when we returned with what was only left of ashes of my grandmother. She whom helps us sort our monthly bills and letters accordingly ensuring us that we'll pay all bills on time. She whom, screams at other kids that bully mine...and much more

Yes, we practically dump all the household chores to her. Ill-treat her NO. Spoil her YES. Our beloved helper with designer clothes, a chic mobile phone that's even better than mine, a bedroom with a queen sized bed, LCD TV, a DVD/VCR player and on no restrictions of going out anytime of the day.

Ever seen a maid that yells at the employer to open the door herself? Ever seen a helper that sarcastically criticized the employer's friend condo's pool as "SO TINY!"? Ever seen a helper that yells back "Wait!!!" when you ask her to get something done? Ever seen a helper that has access to our home safe-box? Ever seen a helper that dresses up better off than her employer, who is often mistaken as the helper instead?

If any of the answer to the above question is 'No', feel free to drop by my house.....
kindly excuse me now while I go tend to that huge pile of laundry now :P

Living Life Your Way

Leonard has written on his blog header :
"Why is it so easy to write the Chinese character '人' but so hard to be one?"
'人' = Human

Cause a lot of us are like what's mentioned below, even though we seldom admit it.

说了又不听 Say but don't listen
听了又不懂 Listen but don't understand
不懂又不问 Don't understand but don't ask
问了又不做 Ask but don't do
做了又做错 Do but do wrongly
错了又不认 Wrong but deny
认了又不改 Admit but don't change
改了又不服 Change but not happy
不服又不说 Not happy but don't say

其实做人并不难, 只看我们这么过我们的身活。
每个人都有他们个人的身活要求。
有的选着高高在上华丽的身活方式。
有的选者简简单单三餐吃的饱,开开心心的过每天。

Work hard, get all the cash in the world and feel less happy about the smaller things in life?
Work right with lesser pay but happy with a simple life?

My opinion?

身体和财富裕都是身外物
都是暂时借来完成短促的演出
人类是租户 爱却是礼物
哪怕物归原主
From Source 身外物

.....from across the causeway. Starting tomorrow Singapore cars will longer be allowed to top up petrol within 50km away from checkpoints across the causeway in Malaysia. When I first read the news a few days ago. I went "Fwah"!!!!!!
Petrol costs half the price in Malaysia as compared to Singapore petrol charges. Especially with both cars(3.2 and 2.4) at home traveling into Malaysia almost a couple of times per week, one need not need a calculator to sum up how much we've been saving.

With the 50km mark and 20litres constraint the Malaysian government has imposed.
I can only say "Kwa kwa kwa"!!!
Less business for those petrol kiosk near the causeway, more Singaporean wallets would be burnt!

It's a smile for the Singapore government, a cry for Singaporean cars traveling often to Malaysia and gawk knows how the Malaysian government feels about it. @_@

Singaporean cars!! No more cheap petrol from across the causeway starting tomorrow Friday 30th May 2008!!!!!

The entire week was gray. Like I've mentioned on my Tuesday's post here. I was freaked out with matters of the paranormal. On Wednesday morning, a phone call was received saying one of my grand uncle passed away. Entire week's center of attraction was the funeral wake.

There are things left unexplained scientifically. Chinese believe that during Red(examples; weddings or births) or White(examples; deaths) matters. Certain people's luck would crash with the person holding the 'red' or 'white' matter.
In this case, it's 'White' since it's a funeral. I attended the burial yesterday. The night before the burial, I phoned my Almighty Queen to ask her check the Chinese almanac- 通書 to see which of the Chinese Zodiac 'animals' will not be in much luck on Saturday. She didn't have the almanac and told me to check with my uncle (the son of the deceased) and told me it should be stated on the paper pasted on the wall of the funeral wake.
My hopes were dashed! The funeral wake was a Christian one. NOTHING was written on which Chinese zodiac animals should 'avoid' the wake!!!! I went to the wake on behalf of my Almighty King whom was out station.

Believe it or not, I came back from the burial site really sick.
Entire body was weak to the extend that touching any part of my skin is painful, throat was unbelievably painful, swallowing my own saliva or water is a torture. Head was attacked by a severe case of migraine. Eyes swell up real bad.
I came back sat in front of my notebook and was basically typing words at a snail speed eyes straining to see the screen. I gave up and went to bed, sleeping and waking up every half hour. It was torturous.

Sometime in the evening, I went to my house alter and lite up joss-sticks for both Buddha and ancestors. I prayed for family wellness and told my ancestors to 'watch over me'. I took a short nap after that. I woke up with NO MORE PAIN in my throat.
Today I'm not even feeling the pain in my bones and my migraine is gone.
How to explain everything? I dunno.

A case of "crash" or ?!?!?!
Then how about the case of me suddenly feeling no more throat pain?

I'm Freaked Out

A big thank you to all that left birthday wishes for me last week! :)

Since last week everything went by in a flash. My birthday last week, buddy's wedding, till Mother's day and the Turkish Formula 1 race on Sunday.

The ironic thing of the wedding? I got up earlier than I did on my very own wedding!!
The wedding was a fun one, except for what I saw early in the morning when I arrived there. The best part, I didn't even realize what I saw shouldn't have been there at all till noon time...
Even after realizing what I saw, the fear didn't set in, thinking after all it could be a good sign since it was a wedding.
After the banquet and arriving home almost at midnight. Then kwa kwa kwa, fever set in with the full flu package. Coincidence or just sheer tiredness?

Didn't help much that I just finished watching 怪谈(HK documentary show on paranormal stuffs)! Plus on Thursday night before the wedding, my 2 gal friends were on the subject of those stuffs. Plus I've also recently read on eastcoastlife's blog on her encounter with those stuffs!!
So, tell me how could I not freak out?!?!?!

While uploading the wedding pictures to my notebook, part of me was shaking. In fear of spotting "it". Then to addon the fear, on Saturday's PhotoHunt. Criz posted paranormal stuffs on his blog! What a week associated with paranormal stuffs!
I'm chicken at heart with this sort of things. Going to pee in the middle of the night would mean being escorted to the bathroom and someone awaiting at the door talking to me. Chicken eh? Thank goodness my dog didn't start howling into thin air.... *gulpz*

Morale of the whole incident, don't watch too much paranormal stuffs on TV!!!

Feeling Hyper

Skies are gloomy with clouds threatening to open up drowning us. But I'm in high spirits!!! Yah, so I'm high in spirits what's the big deal? Big deal to me, cause I've not felt this way in months!

I'll be heading for the Formula Drift show here in Singapore this coming Sunday with L. I've been so looking forward to this event ever since that morning L messaged to ask if I'll like to go with her. Just 2 more days and I'll be feasting my eyes. Julie has been feeding my temptations on cars the past few weeks with pictures taken at car shows she attended in the Philippines recently. This week it'll be my turn!! *evil.mode*

I cleared my hard disk freeing it for space. Trashed lots of junk with no need anymore. Wrote most pictures onto CDR. But it's tiring writing 700MB only each time. I need a DVD writer!!
Uploaded family pictures onto Flickr. But reached the limits of 100mb not even halfway through. Than I realized the problem, I was uploading the original size files!! Deleting them and re uploading would not help cause Flickr sets the limit of uploads to 100mb for free accounts per month only. Anyone wanna buy me a Pro Flickr account?!?!

I recently added the CDHK into my SD card for my camera. Having loads of fun with the extra capabilities of what CDHK can do on my canon.
Canon sucks in one thing, no battery icon indicating battery life. With the CDHK, voila! My battery indicator is displayed on the LCD screen. But the best part of the CDHK in my opinion is, it enables my camera to take RAW pictures!!

*jump high* & *click heels*.....................*falls flat on face*

Dengue & HFMD Scare

The flu-bug still lingering in the air? My gal came down suddenly with fever last nite gaining her a day's worth of rest at home today. My entire body seems to sending signals to my brain telling me it's gonna fall apart pretty soon. Bodyaches and simply restless.

The word fever triggers 2 words to me. HFMD & Dengue!

HFMD has been on the rise since the recent months with almost 1000 cases last week. With no specific treatment for hand, foot and mouth disease. Individual symptoms, such as fever, lameness and pain from the sores, may only be eased with the use of medication. Not forgetting the soreness from the blisters . *GULPZ*
Although it's more commonly found in young children, it does also affect adults.
A fellow adult blogger recently suffered from it and was quarantined at his uni's hostel. Not funny!!

Dengue is next on the list, there has been increasing number of mosquitoes recently in my house.
With the government so strict about outburst of dengue we're reminded everywhere in public with posters that scream out "If They Breed, You Bleed".
Water checks are made regularly at home from our vases to plant plates but all seem dry with no signs of breeding mosquitoes. So where the hell does these mosquitoes come from?I live on the 7th floor and sometimes I wonder how the mosquitoes fly up so high...
My conclusion - Super flying mosquitoes!!
I was scratching like a monkey yesterday with bites on my hands and legs. All attempts to whack the flying monster always fail!! Mosquitoes patches bought from the pharmacy doesn't seem to work except making me smell strongly of citrus.
Which gets my son asking "mom, you smell like orange!!!"

These 2 illness please stay away from my household. Janelle's having her examinations soon. Missing classes and falling sick will probably cause her already pathetic grades to suffer further.....*pulls.hair*

I'm Going Bra-Less...

at least for the next couple of days. I wasn't called 'The Klutz from space' for nothing. Thinking I'm small in size together with my dysfunctional brain. I climbed onto the playground in attempt to take a shot of my kids inside the tube slide. *WHAM* I proved that the playground isn't a safe place at all. A freaking piece of metal rod gave me a kiss on my back leaving a some part of my flesh naked.

The hit is directly on the area where my bra-strap on the back. Anything that touches it strives a yell from me instantly. No leaning against anything. Sleep is a CHORE!! I'm restricted to only 2 freaking positions to sleep. Flat on my already breast-less chest or sideways. Laying on the chest front won't cause major defects on my mini-blossoms but hell it's hard to sleep alright!!

Wearing a bra is another nightmare! When I wondered out loud asking "how am I going to wear my bra?" The Man sheepishly replied "wearing or not, makes any difference?" I could only stare hard at him......weren't we taught that The Truth Hurts?

This Bra-less alternative! Cracked me up!!!

Reminiscing Mode

Any of you remember 陈百强 Danny Chan? One of the pioneers in HongKong Cantonese singers industry. He died more than a decade ago after being in coma for a year plus. He was well liked for his love ballads back then. Just to reminisce, here's one of my favorite from him - 深爱着你

.............. I miss R

Me Weird?

Why is it that when I was asked if I could sleep the night before my wedding? I replied, "I slept like a baby and my dad had to wake me up to ask "do you still want to get married? Your make-up artist is here." I received the O.o (big eye small eye) look? She later commented that I was weird. Huh?!?! Me weird? Ok! I'm weird in other senses, but calling me weird cause I slept the night before my wedding? Something I'm amused with *roll.eyes*

Plus may I add that she went on to making phone calls on her cell phones excitedly exclaimed "There's someone who slept the night before her wedding!!!!"
I stood next to her, on the verge of slamming her head against the concrete wall....

While the bride to be was going on and on about her having sleepless nights before her wedding and looking like a panda on her wedding. I shot her back the O.o look, too excited?
I was excited too before the big day. But heck with excitement and all, I slept the night away looking contented just like a baby with 1 pacifier in the mouth and holding 2 in my hands...

I seriously need an external hard disk!!! I'm really regretting not getting it at the IT Show 2008. I'm so low on hard disk memory now. I've tried writing some of the files onto CD-R but it's irritating me with the small capacity of only 700mb per disc.
Plus I'm more irritated that I've got no DVD writer on my machine!! If I'm able to write 4.7GB each time it'll be a different story....
